Korean engineers develop hybrid drone

Engineers from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology have developed the hybrid of a drone and unmanned ground robot with wheels.

The vehicle called UHV looks like a quadcopter with wheels. Besides, wheels have their own drive gear independent of propellers’ rotors for energy savings. Thus, the hybrid can move on the ground and by air. By the way, it is equipped with special sensors, detecting obstacles in the path. This feature allows the UHV easily flies over objects.

Such hybrids have some advantages over drones: they spend much less energy for moving, make less sound and do not threaten people when moving on the ground. They will be quite good for indoor navigation.
